I hated word problems, and the teacher I had for them didnt like the way my brother had explained them to me....so she always graded me poorly (though I still got an A in that class).

Sticks and blocks. Blocks becoming bigger and crushing the sticks, until the space between the blocks becomes sticks and the blocks themselves become space. Then some sticks widen to become blocks and it starts again.

It's something I've dreamt since I was a child and it scares the crap out of me.
I'm not being silly either. It's a real dream and it's followed by an ominous feeling that's very intense.

Yes. In mine I have to carry stones to a huge pile through a long, empty corridor. The pile is never high enough, and the work never ends. The whole dream is in black and white, and everytime I reach the pile I get a sense of... insignificance and uselessness (is that a word?) The actual feeling is much worse, but it is so hard to describe. It just makes me feel so small I get dizzy. I only dream this when I got a serious fever, but I wake up every time almost screaming.

Why do we have fevers?
